We're 3 months in to 2022 and some juicy delicious albums have come out during that time. I have some favorites I've been playing ON REPEAT since they were released, and I wanted to share them today! Here's why you should care: FKA Twigs has been an icon for so long. I feel like this mixtape has the mass appeal I can finally get behind and enjoy. Shenseea has delivered us some self-aware, self-love gems in this fun, upbeat album that really is some of her best work for all ages. Adekunle Gold put the work into making this flawless, energetic but also conveys a confidence building, heartfelt body of work. Orville Peck presented us with the richest composition of indie country gay music that have blessed my ears. Devita was raised in Korea, then Chicago and back to Seoul later. It feels like you can hear all of those influences in her R&B jams. Earthgang created something beautiful and meaningful while maintaining their down to earth vibe. The beats and messaging is one to remember.
I hope you found something new to listen to and enjoy. I love all the songs I shared here. I truly believe there is something here for everyone and hope you enjoyed something in this today. If you feel so inclined, I do have a YouTube channel as I mentioned above. It would be cool to subscribe to it for more music content and sharing with anyone you think might enjoy these songs as well (sharing is caring). Thank you!!
Have a great day!

The famous and successful label dubbed Top Dawg Entertainment recently signed the upcoming artist named Doechii. I was so excited when I saw her announce this to Instagram. She joins the ranks of Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, SZA and more. I was so stoked to see the label add another woman to their groovy and funky label. She does have a very creative, outspoken vibe to her so I was also a bit surprised. Doechii stands out from the rest of the other artists, seeming laid back, chill out kind of people. Their new artist is anything but chill. Her previous releases include song titles like "Spookie Coochie" and "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" and are about as strange as they sound. What's sick though is that these songs are absolute bangers. They are whole bops that prove her raw talent. I love it and am so excited for where she is going next with TDE. Yucky Blucky Fruitcake
Spookie Coochie *forewarning* this is a very sexual song if the title does not give it away*
These songs demonstrate to us as listeners this woman has IDEAS. This person is a CREATIVE. She has a VISION. That is real, genuine, and something that makes artists so special with their fanbase. I love Doechii's unique flair. I like her dark feminine energy she brings in her songs even when she flips up the vibe. It's expressive and honestly, I just love seeing people express themselves and execute a creative vision. Like YES - bring me into your weird little world of creepy ideas and fruitcake. I'll be glad I can leave after the song is over though. Persuasive This was her first video & snog out after signing with her new label TDE! I was really excited to see clips of the video coming across my social media feeds. Her scenes are so striking, from the black and white blindfolded outfit to the framed dancer. I love the vogue dancing here because it feels like a celebration of self, especially getting toward the end of the song. I enjoyed it and I just KNOW she's coming HARD. DOECHII IS BRINGING HER ALL. I'm excited. Shoutout Doechii and her creativity. She is giving Chaotic Queen of the Organized Orchestra with Unhinged vibes. This is what we needed. She is really in a category of her own right now. She can yell into a mic, she can bring the sexy, she has bars, she has vision, she has the personality LIKE SHE JUST NEEDED THE RIGHT PEOPLE AROUND HER TO MAKE IT ALL HAPPEN and now I'm so stoked she has that opportunity with TDE. I hope they support her well and uplift Ms. Doechii to the levels she deserves. Also, big up to another LGBTQ icon in the making, as she speaks about her bisexuality and makes mention in Yucky Blucky Fruitcake. Take a listen again if you missed it!
Hope you enjoyed this little artist highlight!! Thanks for hanging out. Let me know what you think of Doechii and her trajectory on Instagram. O K A Y B Y E This March really put me through the paces of finding good music and keeping it fresh. I leaned in to the kind of music I would imagine vogue dancing to. I don't know a ton about how to vogue, but I've watched enough to feel the rhythm of a song. It is very upbeat, dancey, electronic and fun sounding. If a model had to walk down a runway to a song, it would be to the rhythm of a song you can vogue to. Additionally, Mariah the Scientist and Orville Peck - two of my favorite artists - released new music. I am so thankful for their craft and what they share with us. These two convey their feelings in such a poetic and somber way, it's striking. Their words are so bold yet their delivery remains soft. The introspection keeps me around as a major fan. This month, I tried using oil pastels to color the songs I imagine them sounding to me. Synesthesia is when you can experience a sense as another sense like seeing sound as a color. I aimed for drawing the playlist in a synesthesia sense. Please enjoy!! Hopefully there is something new to listen to here. All of This - Sandame Remix Pt2 - Jorja SmithThis song really had my by the neck for weeks and TBH it still does. It's exactly perfect as it has this dark undertone. The way it sounds, the song seems like it should be more upbeat. The lyrics combined with the production smack you around in a tornado of emotional torment. Unsure whether to cry or dance. You're welcome.
HMU For A Good Time - Tinashe, Channel TresThis is another song I feel like sounds vogue-ish!! It's like house music (which is a type of electronic dance music) but it just has a different flavor. I hope to continue to learn more about electronic music in the future as it pertains to the gay communities. I find myself drawn to voguing for the intensity and dancability. In this song, I get the feeling of both Voguing and Cyberpop/Hyperpop. Let me know what you think!! Heavy metal with me like Slipknot
Billi - Earthgang, Future I hadn't seen the music video before making this post but it is magnificent. It looks like they posted half of the song, as the video ends with "to be continued..." I love this song because of how powerful it is. Really, the entire album is gorgeous with wonderful beats to dance to paired with bars that will knock your socks off. I've been playing it on repeat, but specially this song. Big love. This half music video (on the right) is amazing and I wanted to see more!! I LOVE SEEING BLACK PEOPLE TAKE THEIR STOLEN HERITAGE OUT OF WHITE PEOPLE MUSEUMS. A must watch video.
Spread Thin - Mariah the Scientist The lyrics Ms. Mariah gave us truly stopped me in my tracks on my first listen. She had me frozen in my seat - then flip the switch two seconds later, screaming on my feet. You can see my initial reaction here on my YouTube channel. I really am such a fan. I feel so SEEN by her music. It's sad girl music with elegance, striving for better. Somehow, her voice and lyrics tell the story of someone who feels their sadness but is trying their best not to wallow in it. That's my hangup with a lot of popular singers who sing sad girl music. It feels stagnant and self-centered. Mariah's music feels growth oriented to me, and I will stan until my last breath. Now I must spend all my time
Thank for taking the time today!! I hope you found something new and interesting to listen to. Please feel free to check out my YouTube channel I started in the beginning of the year. Lots of love, have great day!!
Recently, it's been harder to keep my playlists to my top ten picks of the month. I think it's just because how I am doing and feeling at the moment. Leaving out a song feels like a crime when it was an anthem of the month. I picked five favorites to highlight, ones that I love. No Fuss was the first song on the playlist and set the mood for the entire month. I did an album review on my YouTube channel for Adekunle Gold's new album and am absolutely obsessed with it. This song in particular I was really vibing with in February. Here is a link to the video if you want to check it out. Baby Tate is a unique vibe, She seems quirky, fun, and certainly delivers on great r&b songs. I recently discovered Naomi Sharon's song Hills on Spotify. The single cover is gorgeous. I quite like the video as well. I will be keeping my eye on her and how she grows. After following her on Instagram, I noticed Drake follows her as well and even commented on some of her stuff which defintely means he's got his eye on her too. We know that Drake likes to feature smaller artists on his songs and they usually blow up after that. At least, that is what I noticed especially with Giveon and Jorja Smith. This hyperpop song called Queer is a new genre I'm getting into. I love the design, and the YouTube video commentary says this digital character was created as a sculpture for queer pride in the face of prejudice. It's an empowering, courageous song that balances both the masculine and feminine energies. By far, the cherry on top for me is DeVita's song Show Me. I discovered her towards the end of the month and literally SCREAMED hearing this song for the first time. It immediately reminded me of H.E.R. and put the song on repeat. I also did a YouTube video about her most recent release. It's gorgeous, stunning, amazing, beautiful, outstanding, everything you could ever want in an R&B ep. Here is the link to the YouTube video of DeVita's EP react/review. DeVita has a new fan because of this song.
Show Me - DeVitaI hope you enjoyed the mini highlight of February songs of the month. There is so much great music out in the world. I hate to think I could be missing out on great tunes so I'm always trying to check new artists out, new vibes. If you like something and think I might too, please please send me a link!! I would LOVE to hear it. Music sharing is really why I take time to do this and I definitely want to share music with you. Thanks for hanging out today.
I've been wondering what to do all month for Black History Month. I had the great idea to just share what I already do know and think is cool: MUSIC HISTORY. I have watched so many documentaries about music, I have books on music history, I listen to podcasts about music. I wanted to share some right here, right now. I've been amassing my favorites over time. LET'S GET INTO IT BECAUSE I'M EXCITED! God Save the Queens: The Essential History of Women in Hip-Hop by Kathy Iandoli First which I have read is ... God Save the Queens: The Essential History of Women in Hip-Hop by Kathy Iandoli This is highlighting women in rap who often get overlooked and undercredited for their contributions. Because I was not alive when a lot of these women were in the limelight, I discovered people like Left Eye, learned the backstory of Queen Latifah, and more!!! When I saw it in the bookstore, I saw Megan Thee Stallion featured and I HAD to get it. It just shows how important women like Megan are that she was so early in her career and already featured in a book about important rap figures! Astounding. I'm halfway through reading the book and it's been a great read. Any opportunity to learn more about pivotal women in history, especially women of color, I WANT TO HEAR IT. Barnes & Noble Link Music is History by Questlove I recently purchased two more books from a local black-owned bookstore I am very excited to read. Music is History by Questlove talks about how music reflects the times and movements in society, comparing the songs created to crucial landmarks points in time like 9/11. I like it because he writes with a strong personal voice and knowledge of pop culture. He even includes his favorite music recommendations from different decades which I AM SO HERE FOR. It's a hunky chunky book dating over the past fifty years but doesn't feel dry like a textbook. It's cool beans because you can actually go and listen to the songs he recommends so I'm excited to do that. Barnes & Noble Link Hip-Hop (And Other Things): A Collection of Questions Asked, Answered, Illustrated by Shea Serrano The other book I bought is ... Hip-Hop (And Other Things): A Collection of Questions Asked, Answered, Illustrated by Shea Serrano I picked up this book because it has neat illustrations in each chapter to communicate the vibe of what is being discussed. It's not just line after line of reading. It's fun, casual, and feels more like an atlas or encyclopedia of great albums and songs. Classics like Jay-Z songs include commentary of chart information and history of how the song happened with context behind it. I love it. I'm into it. This is what I came to read. Barnes & Noble Link The Tao of the Wu by The RZA This other book I have isn't really a music book or even specifically aimed at history, but it does cover the life experience of someone truly critical to music and rap history: RZA. He wrote his book titled ... The Tao of the Wu by The RZA and wow. The book description covered it beautifully as "a brilliant blend of Eastern spirituality, pop culture reverence, and hard-earned street knowledge" as he talks about his influence and thinking processes. It is stunning, and I'm only halfway through the book. I love the universal lessons he presents and talks about. I can feel how passionate he is in his writing and that is priceless to me. Barnes & Noble Link Another media about music I love to consume are documentaries, movies, or any show. Just from Netflix, I have come across some really good ones that have been deliciously thought provoking with gorgeous film styles. These are a couple I can remember off the top of my head as being completely fantastic. I am looking forward to watching more documentaries later about the lives of individuals like Sam Cooke and Nina Simone. They are added on my watch list! This is Pop This 8 part series tells the story of pop music of many kinds. When it first came out, the intro clip of T-Pain's interview went around Twitter and actually started bit of discussion about it. Now it seems like T-Pain's music career and presence is more prominent because of it. I love that Orville Peck is featured alongside Lil Nas X. It's a wonderful journey in time through music. It was a great watch, and I can feel the impact of their music today. Homecoming: A Film I love Beyonce - I always have and I always will. Whenever there is a conversation about iconic women, women in music, black women in music, I will scream about Beyonce forever. It doesn't matter if you like her music or not. That woman has done so much for so long so consistently. She is a legend and I believe entirely underrated even now. Nobody else has done it like her. She is in a league of her own regardless of gender. Her performance at Coachella as the first black woman to headline is just incredible for so may reasons. That is why I believe her live show of Homecoming is truly a moment to witness. Beyonce's talent and dedication cannot be compared and I loved this performance. Maybe one day I will get the opportunity to see her in person. The documentary is on Netflix for now. This is history in real time. If there is anything I am about, it is giving people their flowers and love while they're still around to receive and feel that appreciation. I think that's it for sharing music history knowledge and how black people have really shaped pop culture. It's evident here without me having to say much by the breadth of excellence across history. Any of these books and movies can say it better than I can. But it is such a complex conversation to be had really. I wonder how our world might look if people in the past had more freedom to create and were given the opportunities to share their talents. It's why I lean towards appreciating people who are here and with us now, present day. There are people around us every day that are changing lives and making history. I hope those people get the attention they deserve and the opportunities. And even when creating something is simply for personal enjoyment, not to be capitalized off of, that has meaning and value. To simply exist. Happy Black History Month
I wanted to do something different and had this idea to share my favorite Genius interviews where artists talk about the songs they made and more or less details about their art. I love watching them. Sometimes they're funny or silly or the artist brings up an interesting perspective of theirs. Hearing the backstory behind a song you've heard 100 times can sometimes totally change the meaning of the song. I like that because it just shows how art is so personal and how something someone makes can be interpreted and applied to anyone's individual experience. And sometimes, a song is made purely for entertainment and it's great to just leave it at that. Enjoy!! Cordae - Sinister ft. Lil Wayne
Lauren Jauregui - On Guard ft. 6lack
Zack Fox & Kenny Beats - Jesus is the One *Disclaimer* this is a VERY explicit song but equally hilarious and that's why we all love it. Just forewarning -
Girl in Red - Serotonin
Kali Uchis & Rico Nasty - Aquí Yo Mando
Jazmine Sullivan - Lost One
Megan Thee Stallion- B.I.T.C.H.
Bonus: Tems - Higher (Live)
I found so much new music in January! I think it was the longest playlist I have ever made while doing my music journal project, topping out at 7 hrs 45 minutes = 153 songs. It was a ride from start to finish. The vibe started out with some afrobeats, went into emo girl punk rock music, and kind of mellowed out toward the end. Here are my top 20 song choices of January, visualized and hand drawn to make it fun:
Perfectly Untrue (Girli & July Jones Remix) - Lucia & the Best Boys
Deal With It - Ashnikko ft. Kelis
Big Dreams and Faded Jeans - Dolly PartonI think music is so fun and personal because of the diversified human experience. Art heals and lets people know that while we are all so different, common feelings often overlap. It makes people feel a little less alone and that why I love to share art. Life is weird, feelings are weirder. Music is the art form that helps me figure those things out. And sometimes, it's not that deep and it's just nice to enjoy things on a surface level :) The way we express ourselves is interesting and unique. I know I'm figuring it out day by day and growing towards things that feel good to me in this present moment and present time. For me, that's what this is all about: sharing appreciation and being open to what the world has to offer. I know that whatever resonates now may not hit the same in a year, or it may hit differently, and I'm okay with that. I expect it to be that way. To me, that means I continue to evolve as a person and that's all I can ask for really. Some people listen to the same five artists for years, and I think that's great. It serves a purpose and it's not my business. I love hearing new songs and artists though. It's a hallmark of the society we live in and the ever-changing state of the world, what interests are rising and falling among us, and what we can expect in the future. I read a quote or statement somewhere saying that art is first place to look during the early changes of societal shifts and interests. That is where personal experience and community experiences as a group converge which is very neat to me. I love to hear it. This is why art and music is both personal and communal. Anyways, thanks for taking a moment to check this out today. I hope you found something new to listen to! I know I did last month and continue to daily. Have a beautiful day. As a bonus, I found out that a song I had been listening to all month was a girl I follow on Tiktok! The whole time! I had no idea and was very excited to find this out. Below is her original video which she released as a song!! Go support her! She's so good and such a wonderful creator. Her sound is so haunting and hypnotizing, I love it. I want you to think about three massively popular songs for a moment: - Transparent Soul - Willow (released April 27 2021) - Brutal - Olivia Rodrigo (released May 21 3021) - Happier Than Ever - Billie Eilish (released July 30 2021) What do all of these have in common? Emo energy. Pop punk vibes. That's what is happening now, so get on it. That's what I'm here for today. I have the great pleasure of sharing with you fabulous jewels forged in the darkness of young women's minds. These songs had life breathed into them with vocals strained in divine feminine screams. Each bar beats with a heart of passion and pain. The energy fills the space it exists in and I love it. The satisfaction I feel to hear the girlis yelling is unparalleled. Metal songs are so often popularized by dudes shouting and grunting and being dark. That's cool and I respect the craft. But when women do things their way, that HITS. DIFFERENT. IT'S TERRIFYING AND I. LOVE. IT. Let me tell you why it hits different: the screaming the women are sharing is an expression of feminine and human pain that too often gets repressed. By simply sharing their anger and "negative" feelings, these artists go against the expectation that women should be soft squishy pillows to comfort everyone else at the expense of their own comfort and not hurt feelings. Instead of bottling their feelings to avoid sharing the discomfort, the girlis are letting it out. The girlis are going HARD. There is an EDGE to them, and I love to see it. I have been wondering for about a year now and thinking to myself: "WHERE ARE THE WOMEN SCREAMING IN MUSIC? WHY AM I NOT HEARING THE GIRLIS SHOUTING INTO A MICROPHONE IN BEAUTIFUL CACOPHONY??" I have been yearning for it and been unable to satiate this growing desire. It's been an emo itch I have had yet to scratch - until now. In the beginning of this month, I did a deep dive into artists that lead me to other artists who also do guttural yelling of dark feminine energy. This musical adventure did NOT disappoint. After much exploring, I created a playlist nearly 6 hours long, 100+ songs, and learned about so many new artists in the process. I wanted to share some favorites and just people who have impressed me entirely. Warning: it is a bit dark, so please take that into consideration. Introducing some favorite emo girlis of the year thus far: Rubies - Elliot Lee She has a lot of songs I really enjoy, even a cover of Dancing Queen that turned into an eerie, haunting song. Very good. Do You Like Me Now? - Dana Dentata This lady is so badass. I literally have 10 songs on my playlist from her. HIGHLY recommend. Scary good. Gaslight! - Maggie Lindemann ft. SiiickbrainMaggie is a bit more on the pop side and I love it. She has a great look and is quite spooky. Quality content. Overdrive - Siiickbrain I personally feel that Siiickbrain is the most hardcore, savage levels of terrifying. Her music? Intense. Energy? 100% Day I Die - DeathbyRomy DeathbyRomy is very cool and I like a lot of their other songs too!! I'm looking forward to hearing more from them. Maggots - Ashnikko This gal has been a top favorite of mine for a long time. This song is a banger even from last year. She is solid every time. Generally, I think this upsurge in emo gal music has a lot of contributing societal factors. My thought is somewhat due to young people growing up through the pandemic, the seeming doom of the human race as the climate crisis declines, the extreme political divide in the US, nobody can afford to live, etc. Overall, it's a bleak outlook. And people can't even hang out with their friends or family as a distraction because you will kill them or they could kill you (because of a virus). Then, if you are considering dating, you likely do a risk assessment of someone's germiness if they have the big sicky virus or are going to give it to you later on (at least I do). Of course, one person has no control over any one of these factors and that's why the young people of this world have *anxiety* (over-simplified version). It's all very stressful and hopeless feeling. There definitely were a lot of factors before the pandemic that could've led to popularizing emo girl music as well, but the trash-compactor levels of pressure during this time is a lot for many reasons. I think growing up living life online is enough to turn anyone into a depressed, anxiously stressed mess. I feel quite thrilled to be starting out 2022 with this musical energy as the background music to my day-to-day activities. It's quite motivating for me personally, like I am thee baddest girl around and no body can stop me. I highly recommend. Hopefully this year more artists will release music like this. That would be superb and I look forward to it. Thanks for hanging out. I hope the songs above didn't scare you too much. Here is the cover of Dancing Queen (ABBA) by Elliot Lee to calm the nerves. Behold a photo of me practicing skateboarding into 2022 on my little pennyboard. It fits the vibe.
We're all just skating through trying to make the best of it. Recently, I decided to entertain astrology and make a playlist for all 12 signs. It was a fun exercise and challenge to look for music associated with each sign that fit the vibe. There's something in there for everyone! I've been told it has a slightly futuristic vibe to it. I like sharing music from YouTube because artists put a lot of effort into their music videos, and fun it is to find out a song you've been listening to and loving has an interesting music video! I included ones that I liked. It's like finding a little gold nugget. I love it. Sometimes, I've found it adds a story line or more context to a song, like an "ah-ha" moment. Even more depth!! I created a YEDHEADS Spotify account to share playlists easier if anyone is interested in checking it out. I will keep developing this a little further for later. This way, it's not on my personal account, and I can put other fun stuff on there too. Here is the Spotify link to the Astrology playlist I made! :) If this doesn't work, copy/paste link below: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2agRu69TIEJkMX2GD3IkHS?si=3_9dNxoHQvKPlh-H7HJxzw&utm_source=copy-link My general sign favorites are the first few in the playlist below : Signs - Dua Saleh, Star Signs - Odunsi, Zodiac - Headie One, Signs - Beyonce The songs that are specific zodiac favorites and those that inspired me to make this playlist are : Virgo Tendencies - Keke Palmer, Water Sign - Spider, and Scorpio - Moneybagg Yo Please enjoy the music selections!!
Virgo - Bratty
Goat Head - Earthgang Remix - Brittany Howard, Earthgang
Fun Facts: It looks like astrology originated in Mesopotamia then the Greeks went full throttle on it (according to this).
Did you know you have multiple signs (sun sign, moon sign, rising sign)? This Bustle article differentiates the big three. I picked songs I felt loosely went with the vibe of the sign, just based off of what I know (which is very little). I am not a dedicated astrology gal but recently I have learned a bit more about it. This playlist/project was the result of that. My thought for each sign in a sentence was:
I wanted to finish off the playlist by saying No Matter What Sign You Are, no matter your Readings In Astrology, you decide how you want to be. The stars are going to keep shining, the moon is going to keep turning, and you are still you. I do create a specific layout for how everything is organized on a laptop, so if looking on mobile, it will look a little different than how I set it up. It makes everything into a long list which is different than how I set it up on my end. Regardless, I hope you found something fun and new to listen to! I have mixed feelings about an ongoing music project I've been doing. At the beginning of every month, I make a new playlist of music to set the energy. It's a great reason to explore new artists, genres, and different moods every few weeks or so. I love doing it and it's something I look forward to. Then, at the end of the month, I will illustrate my top songs in a little playlist drawing. I enjoy this opportunity to get creative hands-on and not just through making playlists. When I draw, I like to stick to a theme or idea and let that lead the way. It's neat, and I'd like to share where this project has led me so far. I've been doing it since the beginning of 2020 and have listened to a lot of new music since then. At the end of the post, I'll share the 2020 illustrations because I just have never shared them anyplace other than social media before. What's particularly interesting was getting my 2021 Spotify wrapped and seeing how computerized listening data compares to my conscious top music choices for the year. I'd like to share it here because it seems what I listen to most is not my favorite. I can imagine that is the same for others as well and their Spotify wrapped data. I tried to listen to my Spotify wrapped playlist of top 100 most played songs, and, unfortunately, I could not get through it without feeling overwhelming anxiety. Many of these songs comforted me when I was not doing well, so I ended up playing them on repeat, especially in the beginning of the year when I could play music while working. Most of these songs, my own top playlist creations included, put me back to feeling unhappiness and unease when I play them again. I can't get through the wrapped playlist and that deeply saddens me because I really look forward to it all year long. It's pretty common to have memories surface upon hearing a song and it bring back your exact feeling while existing in that memory. I wish most of mine were happy. I've really relied on this creative project to motivate me through the pandemic and through more. Last year, when things were rough for different reasons, creating these playlists and drawings were quite literally the only things I looked forward to doing for months. I'm proud of them. To me, they represent consistency, effort, passion, exploration, creativity, and simple fun when everything else in the world feels complicated. This passion project has enriched my life, and it gives me a reason to keep trying. It's like a musical journal, and I like that. I have always sought ways to translate an auditory, emotional experience like music into a visual experience. That why I started the playlists. Originally, I was inspired when I volunteered to be interviewed at my local radio station where I was a DJ and made playlists/sets regularly. They interviewed different DJs who specialized in various genres to get breadth and depth of musical flavor. It was cool and interesting. I still have a printed copy of my appearance in the little zine they made :') precious. They had me do a a visual playlist, so I took that idea and made it my own (shout out KDVS). Now that 2021 is going to be over with - finally - I wanted to share what I chose for my thematic song of the year. I would encourage anyone to think about their top thematic songs for 2021 or albums or whatever works. Since it's just for fun, so it could be favorite happiest songs, ones that motivated the most, ones that lyrics hit close to home, or something else. My theme song for 2021 is The Sonder Bomb's Crying is Cool. Crying is Cool - The Sonder Bombs
I was planning on choosing top five songs of the year, but it didn't really feel right. Instead, I would like to present my favorite album released in 2021. This album has been the music reel to my entire year. Each song reminds me of a different moment in time. Her entire discography has been consistently in my playlists this year, and I loved it. Each song is personally important and not because of accolades or some musical criteria someone somewhere decided was important. These are my favorites this year, and I love all the songs. Ry Ry My WorldRIP - Mariah the Scientist
And if I told you, "The world is yours" I added a couple bonus albums I felt were also significant. Good music is hard to leave out (links to album on YouTube). If Orange was a Place - Tems Sueños de Dalí - Paloma Mami Something for the Hotties - Megan Thee Stallion Sour - Olivia Rodrigo Below are the 2020 visual playlists I made. I didn't know when I started this project that it would be carry me through a worldwide pandemic, but I'm very glad I started it. With the music I pick, I make an effort to focus on smaller artists, women, people of color, and lgbt artists. This is not a strict guideline for what makes it or what doesn't, but that's the direction I aim for. I like to think sharing my creative interests might inspire someone else to be creative or think creatively in their own way. Maybe, I won't ever know. I have been thinking a lot about what growth in the creative aspects of my life could look like in the upcoming year. I want to share more musically creative things and to keep growing toward something that leaves me feeling good. There's a lot of different areas to get creative in music: learning an instrument, designing album covers, expressing music in your body i.e. dance, and just so much more. I'm really looking forward to sharing. Here's to just keep trying - we'll see how it goes. This is my New Years song send off, into 2022 we go. Thanks for hangin out, hope you enjoyed. Happy New Year Goodbye - Marina |
